Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between adding and removing GST?

Adding GST starts from a base price and calculates the tax and total on top of it. Removing GST starts from a tax-inclusive price and works backward to find the original base amount and the tax portion within it.

What is the difference between CGST, SGST, and IGST?

For sales within the same state, GST is split equally into CGST (central tax) and SGST (state tax). For sales between different states, the full amount is charged as IGST (integrated tax) instead.

What GST rates does this calculator support?

The common Indian GST slabs of 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28% are built in, plus a custom rate field for any other percentage.

How is the base amount calculated when removing GST?

The base amount is the inclusive price divided by (1 + GST rate / 100). The difference between the inclusive price and this base amount is the GST amount.

Is this a substitute for professional tax advice?

No. This calculator is a quick estimation tool for everyday pricing and invoicing. For filing returns or compliance decisions, confirm figures with a qualified accountant or the official GST portal.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. All calculations run locally in your browser using client-side JavaScript. Nothing you enter is sent to a server.
